Since the start of PSL, viewers have seen some memorable individuals innings like Sharjeel Khan’s hundred in the play-offs, Kamran Akmal’s hundred and Kevin Pietersen’s 88* against Lahore Qalandars to chase down a mammoth total but being the top runs scorer in any tournament not only requires individual brilliance but also consistency.
Discussing some of the consistent batsmen from the first two seasons, here is a list of batsmen with most runs in the Pakistan Super League:
Ravi Bopara was the second highest run scorer in the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League. Representing Karachi Kings, he amassed 329 runs in the first season with a healthy average of 54 but could not repeat his heroics in the second edition. He stands 5th in the list of highest run scorers in the PSL with the help of 2 fifties and a best of 71*.
From helping Sarfraz Ahmed grow as a captain to inspiring the youth in the squad, Kevin Pietersen has been a key figure in the Quetta Gladiators dug out. The English veteran has scored 456 runs in 18 innings across the two seasons with an average of 30 which are the most by an overseas batsman. Three fifties and healthy strike rate of 140+ puts him 4th on the list of highest run scorers in PSL.
Umar Akmal had a breakthrough season in the inaugural edition of PSL where he ended as the highest run scorer. His team Lahore Qalandars might not have made it past the initial round in both seasons but 499 runs in just 15 innings puts him 3rd in our list. Not only his average and strike rate are the best among the batsmen in the list but 5 fifty-plus scores are also the most (jointly) by any batsman.
With just 5 runs separating him from his younger brother Umar, Kamran Akmal is second on our list of batsmen with most runs in PSL. His 504 runs have come at an average of just over 25 and a strike of 120 - worst for any batsman in the list. However, they are the most by any wicket-keeper batsman. He is also one of only two batsmen to score a 100 in the PSL which explains why he was retained by his franchise Peshawar Zalmi.
Ahmed Shehzad leads the PSL run charts with 532 runs in 19 innings. Despite being the highest scorer of the tournament, Ahmed Shehzad was dropped by his franchise Quetta Gladiators and was picked only as the last Gold category pick by the newcomers Multan Sultans. His 5 fifty-plus scores are the most by any batsman in PSL (jointly with Umar Akmal). He is also the only batsman to score 220+ in both seasons of the tournament.Related:
