Bowlers with most wickets in PSL

Bowlers with most wickets in PSL 2018

The game of cricket has been more kind to the batsmen and with the introduction of T20 cricket, the imbalance has become evident. Statistically, an average batsman can survive a T20 game better than a mediocre bowler. The ability to take a wicket at crucial times in a match is one quality that every bowler needs to possess and only bowlers with quintessential consistency end up as the highest wicket-takers of a tournament. Discussing the best bowlers from the Pakistan Super League, here are 5 bowlers with the most wickets in the tournament:

5. Mohammad Asghar

16 innings, 19 wickets, 15.1 strike rate, 7.25 economy rate, 3/16 best bowling figures

Hailing from a small district Kila Abdullah north west of Balochistan, Mohammad Asghar has made a name from himself in the Pakistan Super League. The left-arm spinner has taken 19 wickets in 16 innings with a strike rate of 15.1. With the best figures of 3/16 and an economy rate of 7.25, Asghar is 5th on the list of bowlers with most wickets in the PSL.

4. Sohail Khan

14 innings, 20 wickets, 14.8 strike rate, 7.29 economy rate, 3/23 best bowling figures

With an average outing in the inaugural edition, Sohail Khan worked his way to end as the highest wicket-taker in the second edition of the tournament with 16 scalps in 9 matches. This breakthrough season prompted Lahore Qalandars to trade their WK batsman Mohammad Rizwan for him. A total of 20 wickets in 14 matches and an economy rate of 7.29 puts him at no. 4 in our list.

3. Mohammad Nawaz

20 innings, 23 wickets, 17.9 strike rate, 7.25 economy rate, 4/13 best bowling figures

Mohammad Nawaz rose to limelight with his career-best 4/13 against Islamabad United on the inaugural day of the Pakistan Super League. He finished as the third highest wicket-taker of the first season which earned him a call to Pakistan’s squad for Asia Cup 2016. The bowling all-rounder has since then taken a total of 23 wickets in 20 matches across two seasons for Quetta Gladiators with a strike rate of 17.9.

2. Mohammad Sami

16 innings, 24 wickets, 13.9 strike rate, 6.35 economy rate, 5/8 best bowling figures

Prone to giving away runs easily in international cricket, Mohammad Sami has surprisingly been the most economical bowler in the PSL among bowlers with a minimum of 150 balls bowled. He has taken 24 wickets in just 16 innings for Islamabad United with a help of a 5-fer against Karachi Kings thus making him one of three bowlers to take a 5-wicket haul in the PSL. His bowling strike rate is only second to Wahab Riaz among all bowlers in the PSL.

1. Wahab Riaz

18 innings, 30 wickets, 13.4 strike rate, 6.65 economy rate, 3/17 best bowling figures

Wahab Riaz has been the most consistent bowler in the Pakistan Super League ending each season as the second highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets each. The wily fast bowler has worked on his variations to succeed at this level and with his well disguised slower ones, batsmen could rarely do a thing to counter. The astounding fact about his stats is his miserly economy rate of 6.35 - best among all bowlers in the PSL (minimum 250 balls bowled).
