Best Fielders of PSL 2017

Fielding is an anomaly of cricket that hasn't been detailed or recorded for most of the time. Statisticians have tracked the contributions of batsmen and bowlers but the effectiveness of fielders and the impact of a fielding moment on the match have seldom been appreciated.

The Most Impactful Fielding Moment has been calculated by dividing the difficulty of the fielding moment by available resources of the batting team. Among fielders who shared atleast 3 dismissals throughout the tournament, here is the Top 5 that stood out.

5. Kieron Pollard (Karachi Kings)

The fielder with the most dismissals in the history of T20 cricket features at number five in our list of Most Impactful Fielders of the tournament with an impact rating of +15.90. His best came when he caught all the foreign stars of Islamabad United in a single innings to guide Karachi to another play-off spot.

4. Imad Wasim (Karachi Kings)

Imad recorded an impact rating of +17.91 during the second edition of the PSL. Him catching Fakhar Zaman and Sunil Narine in the do-or-die match against Lahore Qalandars restricted them to a chaseable score which Karachi achieved with five wickets to spare to stay alive in the tournament.

3. Mohammad Hafeez (Peshawar Zalmi)

Two important catches of Karachi Kings’ batsmen, one by throwing himself to the ground on the left to hand Shoaib Malik a Golden Duck and the other of Imad Wasim diving at backward point, helped the Professor engage a fielding impact score of +20.20. Both catches were crucial to Peshawar’s success and qualification for the Lahore final.

2. Mohammad Rizwan (Lahore Qalandars)

The effectiveness of Rizwan’s glove-work in the PSL can be judged by the fact that he is the only wicket-taker to feature in the Top 10 of Highest Impact Fielders. It didn’t matter to him it were skiers or fine inside edges; Rizwan held them all and finished with a impact rating of +21.75.

1. Chris Jordan (Peshawar Zalmi)

For a pace bowler to field like Chris Jordan fields is a commendable thing to achieve. One can argue that his bucket hands and agility help him a lot and that his catches were pretty straight forward and dollies but the timing of them in tense match situations earned him an impact rating of +25.55 – highest for any fielder in PSL 2017.
