Azhar Ali returns to competitive cricket with a century

Pakistan opener Azhar Ali returned to competitive cricket Sunday with a century for Sui Norther Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) against Habib Bank Limited (HBL) in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at Karachi.

Azhar spent 350 minutes at the crease and scored 118 from 229 balls which included 12 4s.

The 32-year-old had missed the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a knee injury . The injury had also put his participation in the Test series, which preceded the ODI series, in doubt.

However, Azhar opened for Pakistan in the two Tests scoring 85, 0, 59, 17.

After being replaced by Imam-ul-Haq, who scored a century on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka, for the ODIs, Azhar flew to England to complete his rehabilitation.

With his 118, Azhar also surpassed the 10,000-run mark in first-class cricket .
