Shreyas Gopal removed Virat Kohli (23 off 25), AB de Villiers (13 off 9) and Shimron Hetmyer (1 off 9) in his figures of 3-12 before Jos Buttler (59 off 43) struck a quick half-century to anchor a chase of 159 as Rajasthan Royals posted their first win of the season by seven wickets. This is also the fourth straight loss for Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore in the season who are languishing at the bottom of the table without any win to their name.
After being asked to bat first, RCB's opening pair of Kohli and Parthiv Patel added 49 for the first-wicket stand before the RCB skipper was undone by a googly from Gopal in the seventh over. De Villiers looked in good touch during his nine-ball stay before he punched a wrong-un straight to Gopal. His third scale was Windies power-hitter Hetmyer, who managed only one run in his nine-ball vigil before edging Gopal behind to Buttler.
Despite the big strikes, it was Parthiv Patel (67 off 41) who kept the RCB afloat before Jofra Archer removed him in the 18th over. Marcus Stoinis (31* off 28) and Moeen Ali (18* off 9) then helped RCB post a respectable total.
In reply, Ajinkya Rahane (22 off 20) and Jos Buttler provided a 60-run first-wicket stand before the latter added 54 more with Steve Smith (38 off 31) for the second wicket. Rahane was trapped in front by Yuzvendra Chahal before removing Buttler. Smith almost finished the job for the home side before he fell on the last ball of the penultimate over, caught at long-on off Mohammad Siraj.
Rajasthan scored the remaining five runs off the five balls of the last over, finishing the game with a six. Rahul Tripathi remained not out on 34 off 23 balls.
Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 2-17.
Shreyas Gopal was adjudged the player of the match for his stunning spell.
