MI won by 37 runs

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya starred with both bat and ball to power Mumbai Indians to a 37-run win for their second victory of the season. The defeat also ended Chennai Super Kings' three-match unbeaten streak this season.

After being asked to bat first, Mumbai lost Quinton de Kock (4 off 7) and skipper Rohit Sharma (13 off 18) and Yuvraj Singh (4 off 6) cheaply before a 62-run stand between Suryakumar Yadav (59 off 43) and Krunal Pandya (42 off 32) revived their innings. After the duo left, Hardik (25 off 8) and Kieron Pollard (17 off 7) smashed 45 in two overs to power Mumbai to an imposing 170-5 in 20 overs, including 29 off the last over of Dwayne Bravo.

Bravo finished with the figures of 1-49 after the hammering in the last over while Deepak Chahar, Mohit Sharma, Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja shared a wicket each.

In reply, Chennai lost their way right from the start after they lost both Ambati Rayudu (0) and Shane Watson (5 off 6) in the first eight deliveries of their innings with just six runs on the board. Kedar Jadhav (58 off 54) added 27 and 54 runs partnership with Suresh Raina (16 off 15) and MS Dhoni (12 off 21) for the third and fourth wickets but no one stood ground to complement Jadhav. After Dhoni left on the first ball of the 15 over with 87 on the board for Chennai, they could only add 46 runs in the remaining 35 deliveries, losing four more wickets in the process.

While Rayudu and Raina were removed by Jason Behrendorff (2-22), Lasith Malinga (3-34 took the important wickets) of Watson, Jadhav and Bravo. Hardik Pandya (3-20) bowled brilliantly in the middle overs, removing Dhoni and Jadeja in the 15th over to peg Chennai back before claiming the wicket of Chahar in the last over to round off a brilliant outing and earning the player of the match award.
