SH won by 6 wickets

Suresh Raina’s opportunity to lead CSK for only the fourth time in IPL history ended in defeat as defending champions succumbed to a six-wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad, only their second defeat of this season.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings could only manage 132-5 from their 20 overs.

SRH got over the line with 3.1 overs to spare, their openers once again firing. David Warner raced to a 25-ball half-century before his dismissal, but Jonny Bairstow’s unbeaten 44-ball 61 ensured SRH went on smoothly.

Earlier on, the momentum from CSK’s innings was taken out with a cluster of wickets in the middle overs. Only 52 runs came from the last 10 overs after Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson had added 79 runs for the opening wicket inside the first 10.

Despite CSK’s quick fire start, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Rashid Khan combined to restrict the batsmen. The absence of MS Dhoni caused few problems for CSK’s middle order, as none of the batsmen could provide the impetus.
