BAN U19 won by 3 wickets (D/L Method)

Bangladesh stunned defending champions India in a low-scoring thriller at Potchefstroom to win the Under-19 World Cup for the first time.

Bangladesh skipper Akbar Ali was at the helm of his side's tight chase, coolly negotiating a vibrant Indian bowling attack to carve out a piece of history for his country.

Set 178 to win, Bangladesh stuttered to 106 for six with a rampant Ravi Bishnoi scything through the batting lineup.

Defeat looked on the cards for the 'Tigers' amidst the devastating collapse but captain Akbar got them back on track with an impeccable contribution.

A brief rain-break caused the target to be revised to 170 from 46 overs as Akbar showcased nerves of steel to overcome the final hurdle in their chase to get over the finishing line in the company of the resolute No. 9 Rakibul Hasan.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh's hostile pacers had hastened the Indian batters' demise around the lone ranger Yashasvi Jaiswal, who once again top-scored for his team with an outstanding 88.

India lost their last seven wickets for a dismal total of 21 runs - a consequence of the immense pressure built by the opposition's nagging lines and aggressive field set-ups.

Emotions were high early in the electrifying contest, indicated by a back and forth mouthing of impolite phrases from the two sides in the second over of the innings when Tanzim Hasan Sakib hurled the ball at Divyaansh Saxena in his follow-through.

The unsavoury incident prompted umpires to intervene and tone down the flaring sentiments. This pattern of heated exchanges was witnessed even in the aftermath of Bangladesh's three-wicket win when some shoving took place during the celebrations.

Nevertheless, the victors were mighty pleased with their valiant efforts which have allowed Bangladesh the opportunity to earn their first-ever ICC title in any event.

"It's an unbelievable experience," said Rakibul who hit the winning run.

"We came here with plans and it worked out really well. Whichever team executes their plans better on the day wins, and that happened for us today."

Meanwhile, man of the moment Akbar said: "It's a dream come true. We've had a very good experience, and this is just the beginning for us. Hopefully, this will be the starting stone for us."

The fact that the match came right down to the wire requiring significant resistance from the lower order is due to Bishnoi's vicious googlies that rocked Bangladesh's chase.

They had begun their pursuit of the paltry target with a spate of crashing drives and lavish shots, utilizing the fielding restrictions imposed by the Powerplay.

However, Bangladesh then lost their wickets in clusters before a sublime rescue act was spearheaded by their captain.
