Abid Ali on Sunday became the only batsman to score centuries on his ODI and Test debuts as Pakistan’s first home Test in 10 years resulted in a draw.

The 32-year-old struck a boundary on 95 and then drove Vishwa Fernando through covers for a couple to bring up his maiden Test hundred.

He struck 11 boundaries in his 267-minute knock and brought some jubilation to the home crowd after the Test was severely affected by bad weather.

The Test match finished when Pakistan were two down for 252, as Babar Azam also smashed his third Test hundred with a back foot punch off Dilruwan Perera’s bowling.

Azam, as ever, looked extremely fluent in his stroke play and made the most of his purple patch with an unbeaten 102.

But Abid Ali stole the show in Rawalpindi, becoming the 11th Pakistani batsmen to score a hundred on Test debut.

"I don't have words to thank the Almighty," said Abid on his hundred.

"My plan was to see off the new ball and then I gradually built the innings with plans for every five overs. So I kept trying to keep that up, and Babar gave me confidence in 90s.

The historic Test was marred by rain and bad weather with only 91.5 overs bowled on the first four days.

As per the weather forecast, there was bright sunshine on the final day as Sri Lanka batted for 20 minutes to declare their first innings at 308-6. Dhananjaya De Silva scored an unbeaten 102.

There was an excellent crowd turnout at Rawalpindi as Pakistan fans enjoyed a batting masterclass by the likes of Dhananjaya De Silva, Abid Ali and Babar Azam.

The draw gave both Pakistan and Sri Lanka 20 points each in the World Test championship.

Earlier, Pakistan lost opener Shan Masood for a duck when he surprisingly drove a juicy low full toss straight to the hands of Dinesh Chandimal at cover.

Skipper Azhar Ali scored a patient 36 before he chipped the ball to short mid-wicket.

The second and final Test will be played in Karachi starting December 19.
