Ben Dunk, Samit Patel and bowlers saw Lahore Qalandars to their first win of the Pakistan Super League 2020.
Batting first, Dunk and Patel tore apart the Quetta bowling as they posted a mammoth 209 for the loss of three wickets.
In reply, Quetta Gladiators were restricted to 172 with a decent bowling effort from the home side. Jason Roy was the first one to depart as Samit Patel edged him out with a loopy off-break, which spun sharply to rattle his stumps.
Dilbar Hussain then struck twice to remove Shane Watson and Ahsan Ali to peg the opposition. Ben Cutting fought back with a quick fire half-century. He was caught at deep mid-wicket after scoring 27-ball 53. Salman Irshad did most of the damage to Quetta’s lower order to return with figures of 4 for 25.
Gladiators, after winning the toss and opting to bowl first, had Lahore’s top-order under the pump, reducing the home side to 50 for 3 in 7.3 overs.
The complexion of the game was changed when Ben Dunk (93 off 43) and Samit Patel (71 off 40 balls) decimated Quetta’s bowling to all parts of the ground. Dunk’s onslaught included four consecutive sixes off Mohammad Nawaz’s left-arm orthodox spin. The duo shared a 155-run partnership to lift Qalandar’s final score to 209.
Ben Dunk was declared player of the match for his whirlwind knock.
