Kolkata Knight Riders won by 37 runs

The young pace duo of Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti was at the forefront of Kolkata Knight Riders' clinical performance as they completed a 37-run drubbing over Rajasthan Royals in Dubai.

Mavi and Nagarkoti took two wickets each while Varun Chakravarthy also contributed with two scalps to consign Rajasthan to just 137-9 in pursuit of the 175-run target.

The Royals' bubble finally burst as they crashed to their first defeat after two successive wins in Sharjah.

Their chase was derailed right from the start with Pat Cummins dismissing compatriot Steve Smith in the second over of the innings.

The loss margin could have been more humiliating for RR had Tom Curran not posted a half-century to resist being bundled out.

The Royals were to blame for a spate of reckless shots that resulted in them getting out as Jos Buttler and Smith embodied an excessively attacking approach with extravagant strokes launched on almost every delivery.

Mavi had a night to remember as he ended Sanju Samson's thus far flawless run with a vicious bouncer and later curtailed the dangerous Buttler's stay at the crease.

Nagarkoti then added to the Royals' woes by causing the departure of Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag in the first over of his spell.

Further damage was inflicted upon Smith's men by mystery spinner Chakravarthy, who ensured no fireworks arrived from the bat of last match hero Rahul Tewatia.

Jofra Archer too failed to unleash a scorching charge and could make only six runs, compared to his previous breezy knocks in Sharjah.

Nevertheless, Archer was furiously quick during his rapid spell in the KKR innings as he regularly darted in thunderbolts.

Archer also recorded the fastest ball of the tournament (152.1 kph) and took the wickets of the in-form Shubman Gill and captain Dinesh Karthik.

Although Gill had established a solid foundation for Kolkata, the middle-order perished cheaply leaving a lot of work to be done for Eoin Morgan.

The Irishman executed his job perfectly and helped the Knight Riders conclude their innings with a flourish. Morgan made an unbeaten 34 and cleverly foiled Rajasthan's attempts at drying up the runs.
