NOR won by 7 wickets

Northern scripted another victory as they defeated Balochistan by seven wickets to prolong their flawless run in the competition to five wins on the trot.

Despite Northern making wholesale changes to their playing XI for the last clash of the Multan leg, the different combination did little to disturb their dominant pattern.

This time, wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir stood out for his blazing strokeplay as he batted supremely at number three to anchor his side's chase of the modest 157-run target.

18-year-old Nazir joined opening batsman Umar Amin in the middle after the departure of Ali Imran for a low score and soon began his freewheeling charge by smashing a boundary on the first ball he faced.

Rohail hit five fours and a solitary maximum, which came off the bowling of Usama Mir, during his explosive 27-ball 42.

His wicket at the halfway stage of the innings briefly lifted Balochistan but a smooth stand between Asif Ali and Hammad Azam ensured there were no further hiccups in Northern's journey towards their 10th consecutive T20 win overall.

As ever, Asif was not afraid to take the aerial route and superbly deposited the ball beyond the boundary rope on three occasions in his unbeaten contribution of 41.

Balochistan's toothless bowling was exposed by the fact that no one apart from the accurate Akif Javed and canny leg-spinner Yasir Shah could keep a lid on the scoring rate.

Earlier in the evening game, Balochistan had done well to register a respectable total on the board after being unnerved by a horrific top-order wobble.

Imam-ul-Haq, who has been leading the run charts for Balochistan, was dismissed for just two runs by Mohammad Amir leaving them 28-3 in the fifth over.

Captain Haris Sohail and Akbar-ur-Rehman then stuck around for the rescue job as they crafted an 84-run partnership to vault Balochistan out of dire straits.

Having focused all their efforts on affording them parity in the heavily tilted contest, the fireworks did not arrive for Balochistan as they finished with 156-6 in their 20 overs. Haris was the star performer for his team with his 41-ball 52 concluding due to a run-out.

All the teams now move to Rawalpindi for the second and final leg of National T20 Cup 2020 with Northern firmly perched on top of the six-team table.
