Dambulla Viiking won by 4 runs (D/L Method)

Kandy Tuskers slipped to their second defeat on the tot after Dasun Shanaka and Samit Patel starred with stellar half-centuries in the rain-curtailed contest.

Kandy's pursuit of the steep 196-run target was disrupted by rain pouring down in Hambantota as they were forced to halt their chase at 84/3 in 9.4 overs.

Although Kusal Mendis had slog swept the last ball for a maximum off Patel, Kandy were four runs short of the required target on the DLS method.

Had the 10th over of the Tuskers' innings been completed by Patel, Mendis could have had a realistic chance of getting six more runs in two deliveries to reach the 90-run target on DLS at the halfway stage.

Kandy's bid for a win in their second game of the tournament was dented by a loss of wickets at the wrong time.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz had begun his innings brightly despite the failure of fellow opening partner Kusal Perera. Gurbaz's attempts at repeating his heroics from the previous match was ended when he was yorked by Malinda Pushpakumara on the first ball of the sixth over.

While Kusal Mendis fought valiantly to keep Kandy ahead on DLS, Kamindu Mendis was then dismissed by Lahiru Madushanka to pile misery on the Tuskers' chances of clinching a victory.

The first innings belonged to the belligerent duo of Patel and Shanaka, whose thunderous striking helped Dambulla recover from a flimsy position.

Oshada Fernando suffered an ankle twist early in the game, compelling the medics to rush onto the field and stretcher him to the dressing room.

Fernando's exit due to the untimely injury and the accompanying dot ball pressure in the dismissals of Niroshan Dickwella and Upul Tharanga for cheap contributions.

Patel and Shanaka then turned on the heat with a spate of boundaries in the second half of the innings. Their astounding blitz saw them add 128 runs for the third wicket in 63 deliveries.

Shanaka was the more attacking of the two as the Dambulla skipper led from the front with four sixes and eight fours in his 37-ball 73.
