SEMI FINAL 1 – Highlights- Australia end Afghanistan’s dream run

The Super League semi-final 1 of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 was played between Afghanistan and Australia on Monday (29th January) at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Australia defeated Afghanistan by 6 wickets with 75 balls remaining to reach the Final for the fifth time.

Earlier, Afghanistan opted to bat first; they looked to repeat their performance against the Kiwis but the decision backfired as they were bowled out for 181 with medium pacer Jonathan Merlo picking four wickets for 24. Ikram Ali Khil was the top scorer with a steady knock of 80 off 119.

Australia counter attacked the Afghanistan spin duo, their batting plans were well executed as they chased down the target in 37.3 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Jack Edwards’s 65 ball 72 earned him the player of the match award. Qais Ahmed managed to pick 2 wickets.

What could have been an even contest ended up to be a one-way affair. Australia will be playing their fifth U19 CWC Final. They will face the winner of Tuesday's second semi-final between India and Pakistan.
