Following the Test and ODI series victories against England, the BCCI has decided to give rests to Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin for the three-T20I series against England.
The spin-duo was also rested for the New Zealand ODIs after India’s 3-0 thrashing of Kane Williamson’s side in the longer-format of the game. The BCCI, however, persisted with the two for the 50-over matches against England to give them the taste of the format before the ICC Champions Trophy.
Ahead of the four-Test series against Australia at home, BCCI wishes to keep their main spin options fresh.
Jadeja and Ashwin will be replaced by Amit Mishra, who was in the squad for the three-ODI series against England but did not get a match, and Parvez Rasool.
Rasool caught selectors’ eye due to his extraordinary run in India’s premier first-class tournament Ranji Trophy. The right-arm offbreak struck 38 times and averaged 39 with the bat.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the third spinner in the squad. He made his limited-overs debuts during India’s tour of Zimbabwe last year.
India's T20I squad: Lokesh Rahul, Mandeep Singh, Virat Kohli(c), MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Amit Mishra, Parvez Rasool, Yuzvendra Chahal, Manish Pandey, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra
