The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday reprimanded South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir for breaching Section G1 of the ICC Clothing and Equipment Rules and Regulations during the second T20I against Sri Lanka at the Wanderers.
The leg-spinner celebrated Asela Gunaratne’s wicket by showing Late-Pakistani celebrity Junaid Jamshed’s picture on his t-shirt when he pulled his playing kit over his head.
Jamshed died in a Pakistan International Airline plane crash in December last year during his flight from Chitral to Islamabad. He was photographed with Saeed Anwar on the day of the incident.
Tahir had not sought ICC’s approval before for the act which landed him in the trouble. However, there will be no formal hearing for the offence as the 37-year-old pleaded guilty.
