Karachi Kings were put into bat by Islamabad United on a pitch that looked decent for batting. Karachi lost Joe Denly in the second over for 4. Babar Azam and Khurram Manzoor steadied the innings with a 101-run stand. Manzoor (51 off 41) scored his first PSL fifty while Azam made 55 off 53 – this was his highest PSL score and just his second half-century.
Karachi were looking good to post a target in excess of 160 at one point. But they crumbled from 107 for 1 to 126 for 5. Faheem Ashraf took two wickets in the sixteenth over: he got rid of Manzoor and the dangerous Colin Ingram. Karachi’s innings was derailed at the right time by United’s bowlers. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals, and Karachi managed to post a target of 154. Faheem was the pick of the bowlers for United with figures of 3 for 23.
Islamabad United had issues with their batting since the start of this season but not tonight. They opened with JP Duminy and Luke Ronchi who posted a match-winning 104 off 65; the second hundred run stand of the match. Ronchi (71 off 37) was dismissed by a brilliant caught and bowled by Irfan Jr.
Protea T20 captain JP Duminy found form at the right time, he scored 43 off 44 balls and saw his team home.
