Lahore Qalandars finally end their six-match losing streak this season by beating Multan Sultans by six wickets and 8 balls to spare. It was a struggle but in the end Lahore emerged victorious. Lahore are still at the bottom of the table, at least with 2 points now. Multan Sultans are still the table toppers with 9 points, if Islamabad win the next game, Multan will slide down to the second spot.
Lahore Qalandars needed 115 to win; ideally this should have been a swift task but considering Lahore’s history with collapses, this chase almost went down the wire. Openers Fakhar Zaman and Anton Devcich provided with a 33(15) run opening stand before things got tough for Lahore. Brendon McCullum and Gulraiz Sadaf added 53(66) to take Lahore from 41/3 to 94. Baz stayed till the end and fittingly hit the winning runs to ensure his registered their first win.
Baz was dropped on 9 and 10 by Saif Badar.
Earlier, Multan Sultans won the toss and chose to bat first. They started off well mainly thanks to veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara who scored 45 off 30 before Sunil Narine got the better of him after the powerplay. From being 92 for 1 to 114 all-out: 9 wickets fell for 22 runs! Lahore Qalandars who?
Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled a breathtaking spell of fast bowling, he finally announced himself at the Pakistan Super League: 3.4 overs, 1 maiden, 4 runs and 5 wickets. He took three in his second over, dismissing the dangerous Shoaib Malik for just 3. Sunil Narine was also bowled a brilliant spell (2 for 16) to choke Multan Sultans at the right time.
