Another day, another fiery display from Islamabad United; they have four consecutive wins now and are clicking just at the right time.
The combination of Luke Ronchi and JP Duminy continued to click for the United as they laid a strong foundation once again. After the dismissal of Kiwi wicketkeeper, Hussain Talat and Duminy added 61 off 49 balls for the second wicket. Shadab was sent up the order once again but he sacrificed his wicket for settled Duminy after a mix-up. That brought Asif Ali to the middle, who tonked 45 off 24 balls including four sixes to provide United with a strong finish. Duminy continued at a brisk rate throughout the innings, striking his first fifty of the PSL.
In reply, Kamran Akmal and Andre Fletcher threatened to take the game away at the start but a triple strike from Samit Patel dealt a severe blow to Zalmi – setting the tone of the rest of the innings.
Mohammad Hafeez looked to consolidate but wickets kept on tumbling at the other end. Then came the sensational spell of Zafar Gohar, who dismissed Liam Dawson, Darren Sammy and Hafeez in six deliveries to seal it for United.
Umaid Asif and Wahab Riaz played short cameos towards the end, but couldn’t do much – except for perhaps doing good to their net run rate.
United sit at the top of the table for the moment after seven games, while Zalmi are at fifth with three games up their sleeve.
