Quetta Gladiators defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 6 wickets to claim the top spot on the points table. Zalmi’s loss also means Lahore Qalandars becomes the first team to go out of contention for a spot in the final four.
The last time these two teams met this season, Peshawar Zalmi won by 5 wickets. It was Darren Sammy who on one leg came out to bat, hit 16 off 4 to ensure victory. Today was a little different, Sammy came out to bat to post a fighting target but in a losing cause. He smashed a quick-fire 36* off 19 to take his team to 157. DR Smith (49 off 33) and Riki Wessels (31* off 29) were the only main contributors to the scorecard. Quetta were in full control when they had dismissed half of the opposition for 101. It was a Sammy Wessel show thereafter: they made 56 off 33.
Shane Watson took 2 for 26, Nawaz, Laughlin and a Ali took one each.
Quetta Gladiators had the big guns KP and Watson to help them chase down a tricky target of 158. Watson (37 off 25) set the tone early on while Pietersen hit 21 off 9. Quetta were reduced to 84/4 in the 11th over. Sarfraz Ahmed (45* off 31) and Rilee Rossouw (30* off 27) stayed till the end to take their team to victory. Hassan Ali was sensational with the ball for Zalmi today, he took 1 for 25.
