West Indies B Team downed another star-studded side in consecutive days to go top of the table after a three wicket win over Edmonton Royals.
After electing to field first, the inexperienced Windies side displayed a clinical performance to bowl out the Royals – a side which had won its game by eight wickets in their opening encounter. Inspired by a late onslaught from Kevin O’Brien, the Royals were able to cross the 155 on the board in otherwise ordinary batting display.
Royals openers Luke Ronchi and Andre Fletcher failed to kick off against the Windies. The middle-order was especially a letdown with Farhan Behardien scoring 29 off 39 balls with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. Had it not for Kevin O’Brien’s 17-ball 49 in the end, Royals would have struggled to post a 100.
For the Windies, Obed McCoy was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 4-22 while Kavem Hodge and Sheerfane Rutherford shared two wickets each.
In reply, the Windies side collapsed to 6-66 inside 10 overs and it looked like the 156 target looked elusive. But a 30-ball 75 from Fabian Allen turned the tables for the Windies once again, with the Jamaican finishing the game with a six on the last ball of 18th over. His blistering knock included 8 sixes and 4 boundaries, including three consecutive maximums off Shahid Afridi.
For Royals, Hassan Khan took three wickets for 46 runs.
Fabian Allen was declared man of the match for his match winning knock.
