Winnipeg Hawks climbed to the top of the table with a comprehensive win over Toronto Nationals in the 7th match of Global T20 Canada 2018.
Put into bat first, Winnipeg Hawks posted 164/6 courtesy contributions from Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Bravo. David Warner had another terrible outing with the bat as he was run out for just 1 in the first over, following scores of 1 and 4 in first two games. Ben McCdermott played anchor in the middle with Simmons going on strong at the other end. But a flurry of wickets, especially the double strike from Kesrick Williams dented Winnipeg’s charge. But an onslaught from Dwayne Bravo helped Winnipeg cross 150. Simmons top-scored with 44 while DJ Bravo added 41.
For Toronto, Williams and Mohammad Naveed shared two wickets each.
In reply, Toronto were rattled for just 108 with only Johnson Charles, Anton Devcich and Kieron Pollard reaching the double figures. The highlight of the innings was the Winnipeg’s pace bowling, especially Fidel Edwards who dismissed Steve Smith after unsettling him with pace, bounce and slower balls. While Edwards claimed the important wickets of Smith and Pollard, it was Tion Webster who skittled the Hawks with three wickets, including Devcich, Sammy and Naveed.
Fidel Edwards was adjudged man of the match for his lethal spell of 2-8.
