Edmonton Royals defeated Winnipeg Hawks by five wickets courtesy blistering knocks from Agha Salman and Farhaan Behardien in a run-fest at King City in the 13th match of Global T20 Canada.
Chasing a target of 204, in-form Kiwi batsman Luke Ronchi fell early in the piece. But West Indian Andre Fletcher and Agha Salman added 68 for the second wicket partnership to keep things on track before Behardien joined Salman – who represents Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League – to add 93 runs in just 46 deliveries for the third-wicket partnership. Salman fell for 73 off just 41 balls to leggie Junaid Siddiqui. Irishman Kevin O’Brien fell cheaply as well and Behardien followed him soon after courtesy strikes from Fidel Edwards and Ali Khan. With just 10 needed off 9 balls, Shahid Afridi smashed two sixes to win it for the Royals in the 20th over with three balls in hand.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Winnipeg Hawks posted 203 for five courtesy fifties from Lendl Simmons, Mark Deyal and David Miller. David Warner once again failed to kick-off, who was accounted for by Pakistani fast-bowler Mohammad Irfan for a golden duck. With the dismissal, Warner’s tally since his comeback stands at 12 runs in 5 games. After the dismissal of Warner, Simmons and Deyal added 99 for the second wicket partnership. Deyal fell for 64 and next in Darren Bravo could only add 2. Both were accounted for by Agha Salman. From thereon, it was all carnage from Simmons and David Miller. Simmons fell for 66 of 48 balls while Miller went till the last ball, amassing 60 runs off just 28 balls. Mohammad Irfan was the pick of the bowlers for the Royals who finished with the figures of 2 for 29.
Agha Salman was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.
