Winnipeg Hawks defeated Edmonton Royals by 8 wickets in the last group match of the season to finish third on the table.
After choosing to bowl first, the Hawks bowled Royals out for 141. Royals’ top three all got decent starts, with Agha Salman top-scoring with 43, but failed to kick on to make it big. Once the top three fell, a collapse followed with none of their batsmen other than Shaiman Anwar reaching the double figures. Royals lost their last seven wickets for just 52 runs.
For the Hawks, Fidel Edwards led the carnage with a fiery spell of four for 19, while Hiral Patel and Lendl Simmons shared two wickets each.
In reply, struggling David Warner finally struck form with the bat as he smashed 42 off 35 balls, while Lendl Simmons was forced to retire hurt for 38. Ben McCdermott played a little cameo before Mark Deyal came out and smashed 37* off 19 balls to seal the victory in 16.4 overs with eight wickets to spare.
Winnipeg Hawks and Edmonton Royals have finished third and fourth on the points table respectively and will face each other in the playoff.
