Guyana Amazon Warriors started their CPL 2018 campaign with a six-wicket win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
After choosing to bowl first, Guyana were tested by Chris Gayle who smashed 86 off 65 balls to propel the Patriots to 146/5. Evis Lewis was undone earlier on by Chris Green. Tom Cooper and Ben Cutting played short cameos but couldn’t kick on.
Keemo Paul finished with the figures of 2 for 16 while Tanvir, Green and Imran Tahir shared one wicket each.
In reply, the Warriors didn’t get off to a good start either as both Chadwick Walton and Luke Ronchi fell cheaply. But a brilliant fifty from Shimron Hetmyer and supportive contributions from Shoaib Malik, Jason Mohammed and Chris Green took them over the line with 21 balls to spare and six wickets in hand.
Sheldon Cottrell and Sandeep Lamichhane shared two wickets each for the Patriots.
Hetmyer was adjudged player of the match for his unbeaten knock.
Guyana take on St Lucia Stars while the Patriots will be visiting the Port of Spain to face the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders on August 11.
