An all-round performance from skipper Andre Russell propelled Jamaica Tallawahs to the unlikeliest of victories over Trinbago Knight Riders as records were shattered in the match 3 of the Caribbean Premier League 2018.
Jamaica Tallawahs had slumped to 41/5 in response to Trinbago’s 223. Russell, who had taken a hat-trick before, absolutely blasted his way to 40-ball hundred. He was dropped earlier by Trinbago’s Ali Khan which later on proved to be the turning point of the game as Trinbago had to pay for one dropped chance big time.
Two of Russell’s sixes cleared not only the ropes but also the Queen’s Park Oval stands. Dwayne Bravo tried mixing up his bowling options but could not stop the flow as six after six rained down on a disbelieving crowd in Trinidad.
Russell struck a 161-run partnership with Kennar Lewis who made 51 from 35 but it was all about the West Indian all-rounder.
Russell is the second man to take a hat-trick and score a hundred in the same T20 match, England’s Joe Denly having done so for Kent only last month in the Vitality Blast.
Earlier, Knight Riders powered their way to 223 with power-packed half-centuries from Colin Munro and Brendon McCullum. It was in the last over when Russell got a hat-trick on captaincy debut in CPL. McCullum holed out to long-on, yorked Darren Bravo while Ramdin miscued a pull to deep mid-wicket.
He was declared man of the match for his stunning all-round performance.
