Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Andre Russell, Rashid Khan and Brendon McCullum have been named icon players for their respective franchises featuring in the inaugural Afghanistan Premier League, which commences from October 5 to 21 in the UAE.

The five franchises in the first edition of the Afghanistan Premier League are Paktia, Kabul, Balkh, Nangarhar and Kandahar. The draft took place Monday night in Dubai, in which each team had to select between 17 and 20 players, with five overseas and one associate player mandatory in the squad.
Nine players from Pakistan, which include Mohammad Irfan, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Nawaz, Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi and Faheem Ashraf, have been picked up to feature in the inaugural Afghanistan Premier League.
