Misbah-ul-Haq’s scorching 37-ball 82 not out started off Hong Kong Island United’s campaign on a successful note as they defeat Hung Hom Jaguars by 33 runs in the third match of the ongoing Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz.
Coming at two-drop, his regular batting position, Misbah spanked 11 boundaries – four 4s and seven 6s. The highlight of his stay at the crease were the last seven balls, when Misbah hit straight six 6s and a four on the last ball. The innings comes as a relief for the Pakistan Test skipper who had managed 158 in seven games, with 61* in the first match, during the recently concluded Pakistan Super League.
Put into bat under a heavy cloud cover, United scored 216 for 6 in 20 overs. They lost both openers within the powerplay overs, but Misbah, leading United, held the fort. The wickets tumbled on regular intervals as none of the batsmen, bar Munir Dar, made noteworthy contributions with the bat. The 43-year-old scored 42 runs in 23 balls.
Jaguars crumbled in reply when their opener Kinchit Shah ran himself out on the fifth ball of the first over. Jonathan Foo, 26, scored a breezy 77 from 47 balls at the number four position but he could not save his side from the loss. Saeed Ajmal, Samuel Badree, and Kyle Christie pocketed two wickets apiece.
