Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad have been included in the preliminary squad for the limited-overs series of Pakistan’s upcoming tour of the West Indies.
Akmal, who last donned Pakistan’s colours almost three years ago, made a strong case for his return to the national side during the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL). He smashed 353 runs at an average of 32 and was the sole centurion of the season. The 35-year-old, who opened for Peshawar Zalmi, was the highest run getter of the season and pocketed Best Player of the Tournament award.
Shehzad picked up form during the dying stages of the league. He struck two back to back for Quetta Gladiators before the Playoffs. During his side’s Playoff contest against Zalmi, the right-handed opener stuck his best score of 71. Shehzad has not played for Pakistan since January last year.
