Players can only test their true potential during a tough phase of the game. - Australian skipper
Australian skipper Steven Smith has praised the efforts of Peter Hanscomb and Shaun Marsh, who batted bravely on day five of Ranchi Test to draw the match that threatened to go in the hosts favour.
Smith termed the effort as a great escape which was mainly engineered by a fighting 124-run partnership between Hanscomb and Shaun Marsh. The pair exhibited a great fighting spirit after coming in to bat at a crucial time when Australia were three down at 64, still trailing by 88 runs.
"I'm very proud, they planned the innings well and backed their defence for a long period of time,” said Smith.
Smith further said that this result has shifted the momentum in Australia's favour after India won the second test at Bengaluru.
Smith spoke highly of the resilience showed by the team on a tough day five and added that the real test of character only comes up during a difficult phase of the game.
