Cameron Delport, Isuru Udana ended Balkh Legends’ winning start in the tournament as Panthers ended up with a rather comprehensive win in the 7th match of the APL.
Skipper Mohammad Shahzad provided Panthers a quick start with a knock of 42 runs off 21 balls. That included few unorthodox shots backed up with strong wrists to send the ball flying to all parts of the Sharjah stadium.
His opening partner Ihsanullah was equally effective – scoring 47 runs of just 28 deliveries. Cameron Delport, who started off a bit slowly, caught up later in the innings as he top-scored for his 70 off just 48 balls (including six maximums and one boundary). Paktia Panthers set-up a mammoth total of 204 which was a challenging task for the opposition side.
Legends, in reply, didn’t start off well as the dangerous Chris Gayle was dismissed early by Isuru Udana, who ended up taking four wickets in the innings. The likes of Colin Munro, ten Doeschate and Ravi Bopara struggled to build partnerships which denied Legends a chance of sealing their third consecutive victory.
Mohammad Nabi was the top-scorer in the Legends’ line-up with a whirlwind 40 off 15 balls but the equation at that point was too hard to achieve. Balkh Legends were bowled out for 167, giving Paktia Panthers a 37-run victory.
Cameron Delport was declared man of the match for his standout innings.
