Balkh Legends returned to their winning ways as they handed a 25-run defeat to Nangarhar Leopards in the 9th match of the APL 2018.
Being asked to bat first, Legends weren’t off to a great start when their opener Usman Ghani was dismissed for nought. The dangerous Chris Gayle couldn’t last longer at the crease as well as he was caught and bowled off Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Colin Munro delivered few blows during his 27-ball stay at the crease.
Ryan ten Doeschate was the top-scorer in the Balkh’s line-up (35 off 27), accumulating three boundaries and one maximum. Ravi Bopara fell short of his crease when he had scored three runs only while the other batsmen chipped in with few runs to push the total to 143.
In reply, Leopards’ opener, Najeeb Tarakai was trapped in front of the stumps courtesy a sharp nip-backer from Aftab Alam. His opening partner, Anton Devcich fought hard for his 44-ball 48 but the Leopards kept on losing wickets at regular intervals which kept them out of this game.
Mirwais Ashraf stood out with his four wickets while Aftab Alam and Gulbadin Naib chipped in with two wickets each to keep the opposition quiet.
Mirwais Ashraf was declared man of the match for his four wickets.
