Sikandar Raza (51 off 42), Isuru Udana (3 for 19) and Sharafuddin Ashraf (3 for 31) stood out as Paktia Panthers edged Kandahar Knights by just 9 runs in the 10th match of the Afghanistan Premier League.
Panthers’ top-order failed to provide a swashbuckling start but Sikandar Raza’s composed innings of 51 runs stood out. At the end, Paktia were bowled out for just 127 runs in 18.2 overs. Other batsmen, barring Isuru Udana’s run-a-ball 23, couldn’t manage to put on a score and place their side in a strong position.
Sayed Shirzad (4 for 19) and Waqar Salamkheil (2 for 19) stood out with the ball for Kandahar Knights.
In reply, Kandahar lost both their openers to Isuru Udana who later on finished with the figures of 3 for 19. Senior pros Brendon McCullum and Asghar Afghan were dismissed fairly early as well but Karim Janat somehow provided a ray of hope to Kandahar Knights with couple of late blows towards the end of the innings.
With 12 required from the last over, Yamin Ahmadzai defended them easily as Karim Janat fell short of his crease as Kandahar were bowled out with two balls to spare.
Isuru Udana was declared man of the match for his figures of 3/19.
