Kandahar Knights won their first game of the Afghanistan Premier League as Karim Janat stood out both with the bat (40 off 21) and ball (2/19) to give his side 26-run win over Nangarhar Leopards.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Mujeeb ur Rahman ran through the Knights’ batting with quick three wickets right at the top. The experienced batsmen including Paul Stirling, Brendon McCullum and Asghar Afghan were removed in no time as Knights, at one point, were reeling at 75/8.
The duo of Karim Janat and Sayed Shirzad hung around at the crease which ultimately lifted the total to 136 at the end of 20 overs.
In reply, Nangarhar Leopards lost their star opening batter Anton Devcich on the third ball of the innings while Johnson Charles was cleaned up by Karim Janat in the fifth over. Mohammad Naveed chipped in with two wickets whereas Waqar Salamkheil nipped out the lower order with three wickets.
Leopards were bowled out for 110 in 19.3 overs with Karim Janat being adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.
