Mirwais Ashraf (3 for 24) and Chris Gayle (73 off 22) powered Legends to six-wicket win as Kandahar Knights were knocked out of the Afghanistan Premier League 2018.
After opting to bowl first, Balkh were off to a great start when Mirwais Ashraf and Aftab Alam got rid of the dangerous Asghar Afghan and Paul Stirling as Knights were going around at a sedate run-rate at the start.
Brendon McCullum managed to put on 50 off just 33 balls which included three boundaries and four maximums but there wasn’t enough contribution from the other batsmen. McCullum was ultimately caught by Ashraf off Bopara’s bowling. Riki Wessels scored 39 off 32 balls to give his side some hope as Knights finished their innings on 141 for the loss of nine wickets.
In reply, the universe boss, Chris Gayle went berserk as he smashed Knights’ bowlers to all parts of the ground. His 22-ball 73 included eight mighty sixes and five boundaries. By the time he was dismissed in the seventh over, Legends had scored 85 runs by that point.
Colin Munro and young Darwish Rasooli were dismissed soon after but Ryan ten Doeschate and Ravi Bopara ensured there was no trouble for Legends to chase this target down.
Chris Gayle was declared man of the match for his brutal innings.
