Five promising cricketers from APL 2018

As the inaugural Afghanistan Premier League came to an end, the cricketing world got to witness some of the incredible talent from Afghanistan. Afghanistan has established itself as one of a major cricketing force as we saw during the Asia Cup. Here is a closer look at some of the promising talent to come out from the APL 2018.

Hazratullah Zazai

Hazratullah Zazai made his mark in the cricketing world when he smashed six sixes in one over to record the joint fastest half-century in T20s (off 12 balls only).

He also scored a blistering 124 off just 55 balls against Nangarhar Leopards which was one of the most destructive knocks you’ll get to witness.

With the kind of a batsman he is, we’ll definitely see him display his skills in other leagues as well.

Darwish Rasooli

A product of the Under-19 Afghan side, Darwish Rasooli has impressed everyone with his skills in the tournament. A batsman with a compact technique and ability to find gaps all around the park, he’ll surely make his way up the ranks in the near future. His 78 off 45 balls against Nangarhar Leopards was as good a knock you’ll see.

Qais Ahmed

With 15 wickets to his name, Qais Ahmed is the third-highest wicket taker in the APL. A leg-spinner with strong action, Qais can spin the ball both ways at a decent pace and has been termed as the find of the tournament. His five-wicket haul in the APL finals restricted Kabul Zwanan to 132 which gave Balkh Legends a winning chance.

Karim Janat

Karim Janat’s all-round abilities held him good stead for Kandahar Knights. Being the second-highest wicket taker and third highest run getter for his side, he added a lot of value to his side in all departments. The 20-year-old's best performance came against Nangarhar Leopards where he scored 40* off 21 balls and then recorded bowling figures of 4-19-2.

Zahir Khan

Another 19-year-old budding leg-spinner from Afghanistan, Zahir Khan picked up 10 wickets in the tournament. Being a left-arm chinaman, he can deceive the batsmen with his variations. He can be a great addition to the Afghan’s dangerous spinners including Rashid Khan and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.
