RCB miss Kohli as captain Maxwell strikes purple patch

RCB miss Kohli as captain Maxwell strikes purple patch

Amla and Maxwell blaze away with KXIP’s second win of the season

Despite AB de Villiers heroics, Kings XI Punjab cruised home in style in 15th over with 8 wickets in hand.

Cricingif looks at some of the top moments from the game.

4. RCB search for answers

The buildup to the game was surrounded by the hype of Chris Gayle reaching the 10000 runs milestone in T20 cricket. But the availability of AB de Villiers and a rough form of Chris Gayle meant the former was preferred. Although de Villiers’ selection did pay off, RCB is missing their best combination – especially their captain Virat Kohli. The stand-in captain Shane Watson’s failures with the bat have further added to the woes of the side. RCB has already fallen to number 6 in the points table and will need to find their best combination as soon as possible to rejuvenate the side.

3. Amla among runs after a rough patch

With a lean patch over the last few months, Amla had been struggling to break the shackles. The outing at Indore will definitely help boost the confidence of South African with ICC Champions Trophy just over a month away. Overall, South Africa will be delighted to have their two best batsmen performing at their finest in the lead up to the international event.

2. Captain Maxwell continues to accelerate

Following his heroics in the first game against Supergiants, Maxwell continued his form – smashing 43 off just 22 balls to take his side home. Other than his consistency with the bat, Maxwell has captained his side brilliantly over the two games this season, hardly yielding any lapses. The playing XI for the KXIP also looks well balanced, and if they continue in this fashion, they will certainly have a chance to go all the way.

1. AB’s heroics

Despite RCB’s loss, AB de Villiers was at his finest on his return to the IPL. He walked into bat after just one over but only faced 46 of the 114 balls in the innings as his batting partners failed to rotate the strike. But in the 46 deliveries he faced, he was able to put his best on display with 9 sixes, and 3 boundaries to at least give his side a fighting chance.
