The Indian cricket team extended their well-wishes to Shahid Afridi after he announced his retirement from the international cricket in the month of February.
In the times of high political tension between the two neighbours, the Indian side presented Afridi with Virat Kohli’s jersey with “always a pleasure playing against you” inscribed on it.
The 18 number shirt had signatures of the Indian skipper, Yuvraj Singh, Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah, Suresh Raina, Pawan Negi, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, R. Ashwin, Hardik Pandya and former coach Ravi Shastri, among others.
Afridi, who began his international career in 1996 with then fastest ODI century, played 83 contests, across all formats, against India. In his last international campaign, he captained Pakistan during the World T20 in India and came under fire for his remarks about the hospitality his side received in India.
He was chewed out by the former Pakistan cricketers and the Pakistani media for saying that Pakistani cricketers are more loved in India.
