Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning missed out on their fifties, but their useful knocks were backed up by strong bowling performance as Australia opened their ICC Women's World T20 2018 campaign with a 52-run win against Pakistan.
Batting first after winning the toss in the second match of the tournament, Australia were off to a flying start, with the first-wicket duo of Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney adding 72 off 7.6 overs.
Alyssa Healy had scored 48 off 29 when she lofted a full ball outside off-stump from Aliya Riaz straight to long-on.
Skipper Meg Lanning and Mooney kept the run-rate to go along, but neither batter could go on to make a big score. Mooney was dismissed after scoring 48 off 39 while Meg Lanning went on to make 41 off 34.
In reply, Ayesha Zafar was dismissed in the first over when she played across a fuller ball from Megan Schutt. Umaima Sohail was looking fairly aggressive with the bat but she found herself short of the crease at the keeper’s end.
Spinners Georgia Wareham and Ash Gardner got some significant turn and wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy was in the thick of things, playing a part in four dismissals as Pakistan collapsed from 64/3 to 78/7, before finishing on 113/8.
Pakistan will now take on India on November 11.
