Gihahn Cloete, Theunis de Bruyn stood out for Tshwane Spartans as they edged Paarl Rocks by one run in the 4th match of the Mzansi Super League.
Paarl Rocks, after opting to field first, weren’t off to a terrific start as Cloete and de Bruyn powered Spartans to a blazing start, accumulating 101 for the first wicket. De Bruyn was dismissed after going for the paddle shot, but got it off the toe end of the bat, hitting it straight to short fine-leg fielder.
Cloete (80 off 49) and AB de Villiers pushed the pedal further, racing to 178 after 16.2 overs. The rest of the batting couldn’t get big scores but the total was elevated to 203 after 20 overs.
In reply, Michael Klinger was dismissed early and so was Henry Davids but opener Cameron Delport and van Jaarsveld stitched a 57-run partnership before the latter was caught off Mendis’ bowling.
With 30 required off 12 balls, Mosehle struck two boundaries and a maximum to bring the equation to 13 off one over. As nine were scored off the first five balls of the last over, Mosehle only managed to get two runs off the last ball as the bowling side managed to sneak a win by just one run.
Theunis de Bruyn was declared man of the match for his quick fire 66 off 38 deliveries.
