Captain Faf du Plessis struck a key half-century on his MSL debut to help the Paarl Rocks inflict a first defeat of the campaign on the leaders Cape Town Blitz.
The Proteas skipper struck six fours in his 39-ball 54 as the hosts chased down 141, winning by five wickets with seven deliveries to spare.
After put in to bowl first, Paarl looked in trouble early after the Blitz’s top three of Quinton de Kock (31), Janneman Malan (29) and Andile Phehlukwayo (24) provided a solid start.
The visitors began well by reaching 82 for one in the 10th over, before Fortuin dismissed all three as well as captain Farhaan Behardien (4).
Things got even tougher as Paterson’s pace sliced through the middle and lower order leaving the Blitz all out for 140.
In return, Dale Steyn nipped out two wickets in three balls leaving the Rocks on three for two.
But Du Plessis and Vaughn van Jaarsveld steadied the ship with a 67-run fourth wicket stand that calmed things down.
George Linde (1/26) and Dane Piedt (1/18) then claimed the wickets of the latter as well as David Wiese (11) to create a twist in the tale.
But Du Plessis found a foil in Mangaliso Mosehle (28 not out) as Paarl seized a first win in their third match of the campaign.
