Zimbabwe make history by chasing 316

Zero was the number of 300 plus totals chased in Sri Lanka in 296 games played till day. But it all changed today as Zimbabwe chased down 316 with 14 balls to spare as Sikandar Raza tonked Amila Aponso out of the park.

The victory is also Zimbabwe's first ever win against the Islanders on their home turf.

Having won the toss, Sri Lanka chose to bat first. Despite the early loss of Dickwella, Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Upul Tharanga struck fifties to tonk the guests past 300 in first ODI at Galle in 17 years.

Upul Tharanga combined with skipper Mathews to provide late surge to post a massive total.

In reply, Zimbabwe were dented earlier with the wickets of Hamilton Masakadza and Craig Ervine. From there on, young Solomon Mire combined with Sean Williams for 161 run third-wicket partnership to enervate the chase.

Mire fell for 112 while Williams was bowled for 63. Zimbabwe looked shaky for a moment but Sikandar Raza and skipper Waller ensured a smooth journey home.
