The 9th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup was played between hosts England and Sri Lanka at the County Ground, Taunton on Sunday. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first, managed to score 204/8. England easily chased down the target in just 30.2 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets. England have won two matches out of three and Sri Lanka have lost all three matches so far.
Captain Heather Knight scored her thirteenth half century as England comprehensively chased down the target of 205 runs. Knight was also involved in a brilliant partnership of 148 runs for the third wicket with Sarah Taylor. Knight hit 10 fours in her innings of 82.
Laura Marsh was the player of the match as she took 4 for 45 against Sri Lanka. She took the important wicket of Hasini Perera who scored 46, in just her second over. She then got rid of another set batter Shashikala Siriwardene. The other two wickets were of Harshitha Madavi and Eshani Lokusuriyage. This was Laura Marsh’s fourth 4 wicket haul in ODIs.
