Dominant Australia trump New Zealand

The 10th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup was played between arch-rivals Australia and New Zealand at Bristol County Ground, Bristol on Sunday. Defending world champions Australia were chasing 220 for victory as Kiwis won the toss and chose to bat first. Australia were cruising at 2 for 143 before the 16 year old leg spinner Amelia Kerr took two wickets in two balls. This didn’t prove costly for the Aussie team as they still managed to beat New Zealand by 5 wickets. This was their third win in three matches as they are now at the top of the points table with India. New Zealand have only managed to win one game out of their three so far.

Match Highlights

Best Batter - Ellyse Perry, 71 off 91

Ellyse Perry continues to be the star performer for the Aussies. She had an off day with the ball but she didn’t miss out with the bat. When two wickets fell in two balls, she kept her cool and went on to score 71 off 91 balls. Perry reached the milestone of 2000 runs in this innings: the first 1000 runs of her ODI career came in 45 innings and the next 1000 in just 19.

Best Bowler- Jess Jonassen, 3 for 33

Jess Jonassen took the all important wicket of the Kiwi captain Suzie Bates when she was batting on 51 and looked threatening to score big and take control of the Kiwi innings. New Zealand were 95 for 3 at that time. Jonassen had earlier struck twice in the same over as she got the wickets of Amy Satterwaite and Katey Martin.
