Melbourne Renegades moved to the second spot in the 2018-19 Big Bash League after hammering Sydney Sixers by seven wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Sydney Sixers had a hard time with the bat putting only 115 on the board which was hunted down with ease by Renegades.
Seamers gave Renegades the ideal start after putting the Sixers in to bat first. Kane Richardson struck in the second over to get rid of Daniel Hughes and in the very next over, Harry Gurney castled his countryman James Vince cheaply for just 6.
Richardson then struck again inside the powerplay, this time getting rid of Moises Henriques. The momentum continued with Renegades making breakthroughs at regular intervals without allowing Sixers to build any sort of momentum.
Overseas player, Tom Curran was the only one to offer resistance with the bat as he struck some lusty blows towards the end to drag the score past 100. He made 44 off just 30 deliveries and was adjudged leg-before off the final ball of the innings as Mohammad Nabi finished with four wickets to his name.
Even though Marcus Harris departed for just 10, chasing 116 was never going to be a tough ask for a power-packed batting order. Skipper Tom Cooper scored 49 and added 54 for the second wicket to effectively kill the chase.
Once he departed, Sam Harper, Cameron White and Nabi finished off the chase with 42 balls left to spare.
