Wade, Short storm past Adelaide in ten-wicket thumping

Hobart Hurricanes skipper Matthew Wade and his opening partner D’Arcy Short smashed whirlwind unbeaten fifties to storm past Adelaide Strikers by record-equalling 10 wickets to consolidate their position at the top of BBL ladder. The Hurricanes became just the second BBL team to notch a 10-wicket win, cruising to their 155-run target with 19 balls to spare at the Adelaide Oval.

Perth Scorchers are the BBL's only other 10-wicket winners, achieving the feat against the Melbourne Renegades in December 2015.

Wade smacked 84 from 49 balls and Short made 73 from 52 to complete eighth win in nine games for the Tasmanian side and putting a six-point gap between them and second-spot Sydney Sixers with a game to spare.

Wade reached his half-century from just 32 balls and the openers recorded a 100-run stand from only 12 overs.

Earlier, batting first, Adelaide posted 154 for five, powered by skipper Colin Ingram’s unbeaten 36-ball 67.

Alex Carey and Jon Wells made 28 apiece but Adelaide struggled to kick on – they were a 3-55 after 10 overs. South African-born Ingram then produced a late flurry to help his side post a decent total.

Jofra Archer and James Faulkner shared two wickets each for the visitors.

Matthew Wade as adjudged Player of the Match for his unbeaten 84.

Adelaide (eight points) remain in a mid-table jam and face Melbourne Stars at the MCG on January 23 next. On the other hand, high-flying Hurricanes will be visiting Sydney to face Sydney Sixers a day later.
