Ferguson's 48-ball hundred stuns Perth Scorchers

Ball-by-ball details & scorecard: Perth Scorchers v Sydney Thunder - Match 41 - Perth

Veteran batsman Callum Ferguson launched an assault to stun Perth Scorchers and keep them rooted to the bottom spot in the standings. Ferguson registered just his second century as he smashed eight sixes and eight fours to eventually take just 48 balls to reach the three-figures.

Defending 181, Scorchers made a confident start as they got rid of Shane Watson, who struggled on the night making just 8 off 14 deliveries. But Ferguson was on the move right from the outset collecting two fours off his first four balls.

The duo of Ferguson and Gilkes also took on Usman Qadir in his first over of the game and ensured he didn't settle down. In his second over, Qadir was hammered for three sixes by a free flowing Ferguson who also brought up his fifty in the process, off just 24 balls.

Gilkes finally succumbed to an Andrew Tye slower delivery but not before impressing with a fifty on debut. The 120-run partnership had hurt Scorchers and even though Anton Devcich and Daniel Sams failed to make an impact, Thunder had Ferguson at the other end who took over the chase at this point when his side needed 31 off 18.

Earlier in the evening, Shaun Marsh cracked an unbeaten 96 while batting through the innings. Marsh first put on 58 for the second wicket with his brother Mitchell Marsh before turning on the heat in the final five overs of the innings.

Despite fetching 16 runs off the first three balls of the final over that took his score to 95, Marsh failed to reach the three figure mark, finishing four short of the landmark.
