Short, Archer star in Hobart's nine-wicket thumping of Brisbane Heat

Another unbeaten half-century from opener D'Arcy Short helped the Hobart Hurricanes make light work of the Brisbane Heat.

Short smashed 68 not out from 41 balls including eight boundaries and one maximum, in a 132-run partnership with Canes rookie Caleb Jewell, who kept pace with 61 not out from 38 balls – also with eight boundaries and one maximum.

Hobart finished with 1-146 in their clinical nine-wicket victory, making it their ninth win of the season from 11 games.

Earlier, Archer took a boundary catch blinder and two wickets in two balls as the Heat collapsed to 4-27 inside the first six overs.

Archer backed up his excellent catch with the big wicket of Chris Lynn and Matthew Renshaw two overs later.

Brendon McCullum went in the sixth over when he holed out for three off just 11 balls.

Alex Ross and Heat skipper Jimmy Peirson then stabilized the ship with a 109-run fifth-wicket partnership. Ross struck eight fours on his way to 62 from 35 balls.

Hurricanes quicks David Moody and James Faulkner both finished with 2-27 – Moody dismissing McCullum caught Bailey and Ross caught Wade, and Faulkner dismissing Bryant caught Archer and clean bowling a big-swinging Jimmy Peirson.

D’Arcy Short was declared man of the match for his 68 off 41 balls.
