Fractured thumb rules Hafeez out for remainder of PSL 2019

Mohammad Hafeez has been ruled out for the remainder of Pakistan Super League following an injury he sustained in Lahore’s clash against Karachi Kings, the management of Lahore Qalandars confirmed.

The 38-year-old sustained an injury to his right thumb while fielding off his own bowling when Colin Ingram struck a powerful shot back to Hafeez and the intensity of the hit was such that the ball burst through his fingers.

He was immediately taken off the field and missed the subsequent game against Peshawar Zalmi as AB de Villiers was handed over the captaincy duties.

“Tests revealed that his thumb was fractured and he needs a surgery. Subsequently, he will be out of action for 4 to 6 weeks,” said Qalandars’ management.

“Hafeez is being released from the Qalandars squad and a replacement will be sought to cover his place.”

Lahore have lost two of their three games in the first leg of the tournament and will face Multan Sultans on February 22.
