De Villiers, Wiese power Qalandars to six-wicket win in last-ball thriller

David Wiese (45* off 20) struck a massive six off the last ball to pull off an unlikely win for his side over Multan Sultans.

Lahore, chasing a massive 201-run target, needed 70 off the last five overs. De Villiers was at his best when he guided a full toss from Junaid Khan, outside off-stump, over third man’s head for a maximum.

That shot was made possible on a free hit after Junaid overstepped while dismissing Wiese in the 18th over, changing the outcome of the match.

De Villiers and Wiese hit a six each off West Indian Andre Russell in the second last over to bring down the equation to just nine off six balls.

Christian conceded six off the first five balls as tension started to mount.

De Villiers finished with 29-ball 52 not out while Wiese scored a more aggressive unbeaten 20-ball 45. The duo added 98 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand.

Earlier, Multan Sultans batted ruthlessly to post 200 plus total as Vince stroked a 41-ball 84.

Debutant Umar Siddiq complemented his partner well with a 38-ball 53 with two sixes and four boundaries to take their side to a comprehensive 200-6.

Multan lost their plot in the last seven overs after Lamichhane picked up three wickets to apply brakes on the opposition.

Siddiq was dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi in the 15th over when the left-hander went for a pull but only found a top edge.

Daniel Christian struck two sixes and a boundary to score 10-ball 21 to give the impetus as Multan accumulated 43 runs in the last five overs.
